Truly raw and beautiful testimony, Laura. I’m grateful your daughter is doing so well. Having watched my own battle the cancer demon and come out whole on the other side is one of the miracles I’m constantly thanking God for!
You and I have shared so many similar moments in ourselves, our marriages, and with our kids. Each time I read your words I find myself thinking, I could just change the names and that story wound be us! So would the healing and the growing, indestructible faith God has planted in us. I think of all the miracles God has blessed us with, that is the one that brings the most good. Knowing that every moment of our lives has already been written by the hand of our Creator, and because it has, we don’t have to fear the ending!
Thank you so much! I agree! What I love is that we can share our stories and not just the dark part, but the beautiful glorious God part! We can stand with our testimonies knowing they are our weapons that overcome the enemy!! I appreciate your heart and the strength of your walk with God. You truly are an inspiration! I love what you said, “ Knowing that every moment of our lives has already been written by the hand of our Creator, and because it has, we don’t have to fear the ending!”. This is so encouraging because even though my Vaness is doing well, fear would like to snatch my faith if I’m not careful! Thanks Jen. So grateful for your friendship! ❤️
The word “layers” changes the whole piece. What may look temporary from the outside can be pain quietly accumulating underneath. Thank you for writing this with such honesty, especially about what parents sometimes understand only after the damage has begun.
Laura, the movement from phase to layer gives this reflection its moral weight: what appeared temporary was carrying pain that had already begun accumulating beneath the family’s attention. Your admission that your own unresolved pain narrowed your ability to recognize hers refuses the easier story of loving intentions and accepts the consequences of what went unseen. The apologies, counseling, and restored family relationships become practices of accountability, showing how faith can accompany honest repair while leaving room for wounds that still require care. Grateful for the courage with which you let your daughter’s suffering change the way you understand attention, parental responsibility, and grace.
I’m sure that wasn’t easy to share. But as parents it’s important we are there for our children. It’s important to show respect and honor to our spouses too especially in front of our children.
I’m glad you and your husband and your children got help to navigate the storms in your life.
Thank you for sharing this and sharing good sound advice from your experiences .
It’s not easy, but I know there are so many who are going through or have gone through the same kinds of things. We don’t like to talk about it, but it’s important that we do. I so appreciate your comments and kind words! I truly appreciate it! ♥️
The distinction between a phase and a layer is powerful. Sometimes what looks temporary from the outside is actually pain accumulating quietly underneath. I appreciated your honesty about what your family missed, but also your refusal to pretend that healing erases every consequence. The hope here feels real because it makes room for regret, apology, counseling, forgiveness, and the slow work of God restoring what can be restored.
As a mom, my heart was breaking with you as I read your post. Sometimes our life is like a great battle against evil forces. There are times that all we can do, is tell our Heavenly Father that we don't know what to do, and fix our eyes upon our Savior. (2 Chronicles 20:12) God is merciful. Thanks for sharing, Laura.
Amen! It’s so true! It’s not easy, but like you said God is so merciful! He can take what’s broken and bring new life. 🥰. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Sooo love what you've written ... it's so true that we can so glibly view seasons as "just a phase" without looking beyond ...
I was going to say, "Ironically", but probably more, unsurprisingly, the devotional I just read yesterday said exactly what you had, in your comment about the fact that "we don't have to fear the ending" ... I'm continuing to hold on.
Thank you for your cheering me along especially by just keeping me reminded of God's faithfulness to His promises ❤️
You’re so welcome! I love how God uses different sources to underscore His message! That is the best! Thank you so much for sharing this and for your kind words! I’m always here cheering you along! 🥰🙏
Amen! Thank God for the promise of Philippians 1:6!
Amen! ❤️
