Five Minute Friday | PIVOT
... to change your opinions, statements, decisions, etc. so that they are different from what they were before.
I missed this week’s Five Minute Friday, so I was going to skip it. But I saw a couple submissions and it inspired me to post my own. If you want to see the other 2 that inspired me, they can be found here:
What do I think of when I say pivot?
Friends comes to mind when Ross yelled , “Pivot!”
Sometimes we pivot left or sometimes to the right
A pivot can be wide, but it also can be slight
But whatever way you pivot, be sure your feet are firm
Or the weight you’re likely carrying will surely make you squirm
Jesus says to yoke to Him and throw our weights His way
So when we do we’ll find some rest and never shall we stray
Unlike Ross and all his friends
We won’t get stuck within the bends
If we pivot far from worldly lies
We’re sure to reach our heavenly prize
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
—Matthew 11:28-30

Laura, I enjoyed how you moved from the humor of Ross yelling “Pivot!” into the deeper invitation of Matthew 11. The image of needing firm feet when the weight we carry begins to shift gives the poem a useful spiritual center, because not every pivot is about motion; some are about learning where to place the burden. I appreciated the reminder that turning away from worldly lies begins with being yoked to Christ, whose gentleness makes rest possible. Grateful for this playful and faithful response to the prompt.
Great analogy! I love how you connected the concept of pivoting to both physical and spiritual aspects.
